Helen Folasade Adu known professionally as Sade Adu is a Nigerian-born British singer, born on January 16, 1959, in Ibadan Oyo state, Nigeria. She was born to a Nigerian economist lecturer Adebisi Adu and Anne Hayes who was an English nurse. However, when Sade was four years old, her parents divorced and her mother returned to England with her and her older brother Banji.
Sade was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2002 for services to music. She has been married several times but has one transgender son named Izaak Theo Adu.
Fun fact: Sade Adu is the first Nigerian artist to win a Grammy Award.
