The National Children’s Park and Zoo was established to provide a fun and educative place for children to learn about different animals and their habitats. It was also designed to be a serene environment for families to enjoy picnics and see various kinds of animals.

Current State of the National Children’s Park and Zoo

The National Children’s Park and Zoo in Abuja, Nigeria, has been suffering from neglect for over 14 years. It was commissioned in 2001 by the Nigerian government and was designed to be a serene environment for families to enjoy picnics and see various kinds of animals. The Park was built on a 25-hectare piece of land and was equipped with various facilities such as a playground, a lake, and a restaurant.

However, recent reviews suggest that the park is not well-maintained and has few animals. Visitors have reported that the park is empty, with few or no animals at all. The facilities are also said to be in a state of disrepair, with the playground and restaurant not functioning properly.

Visitors should also note that the park is open from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is closed on Sundays.

In 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan approved the constitution of an Interim Management Committee for the National Children’s Park and Zoo, Abuja. However, it is unclear what progress has been made since then to improve the park’s current state.

Though this park and zoo are not at their peak as they once were, this Park creates an enabling environment and means of education that can only be found in zoos or watching National Geographic. It provides children with a fun experience and the needed education for their fragile brains.

The government should hence maintain this national treasure to preserve the continued learnings of our young ones.
