Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely recognized by his stage name Portable, has vocally opposed the recent comparisons between his facial tattoos and those of his fellow artist Asake.
Asake, known for hits like Terminator, recently introduced his fans to a new aesthetic. His tattoos, which include dollar signs and the inscription “Believe,” among others, were proudly displayed on Instagram last Sunday. This bold move quickly became a topic of discussion, with some netizens drawing parallels to Portable’s inked facial features.
Portable, however, was quick to quash these comparisons. The singer expressed his frustration in a fiery video message shared across his social media platforms.
“Do not compare me to Asake. I don’t resemble Asake. I look like Lil Wayne,” he asserted. He criticized the comparison, labeling Asake as “overrated.”
Portable’s tattoos have always been a hallmark of his wild and unapologetic persona, often drawing from personal symbolism, cultural elements, and his affinity for American hip-hop culture, particularly that of Lil Wayne, whose tattoos and lifestyle have significantly influenced many artists worldwide.
This isn’t the first time Portable has made headlines for his outspoken views or unique style. Known for his street credibility and infectious ‘Zazu’ music, Portable has carved a niche in the Nigerian music scene, where his authenticity and raw energy are celebrated and controversial.
