The Federal Government has suspended key officers overseeing the Maximum and Medium Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos, following an audio leak suggesting that cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, received preferential treatment. Bobrisky, sentenced to six months in jail, was allegedly kept in an apartment outside the facility.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced the suspension in a statement on Thursday obtained by Naijassador. This follows an investigation initiated by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, into the allegations. Ahmed clarified that the officers were suspended to ensure a thorough investigation, with the findings to be made public.
Among those suspended are Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller at the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri. Two other officers, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna from Afikpo, Ebonyi State, and Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu from Kuje, Abuja, were also suspended for separate infractions involving inmates. The investigation is ongoing, with further updates expected.
