The Federal Government has launched a full-scale investigation into corruption allegations within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Naijassador reports. This decision follows the release of a leaked audio clip by social activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), implicating top officials in a bribery scandal.
On Tuesday, VDM shared the audio, allegedly featuring cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, discussing how his “godfather” ensured he avoided time in a custodial centre after being sentenced to six months in prison for defacing the Naira. The clip also suggested that officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) demanded a N15 million bribe to drop money laundering charges against Bobrisky.
In response, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, issued a statement on Wednesday, signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Babatunde Alao, calling for a “thorough and impartial investigation” into the allegations of bribery within the NCoS. The minister vowed to hold all involved parties accountable, promising that anyone found guilty would face disciplinary actions.
In a related development, controversial singer Seun Kuti revealed his role in the unfolding saga. During an Instagram live session, Kuti disclosed that he was the first person VDM informed about the audio. He claimed to have encouraged VDM to expose Bobrisky, stating, “You people are late to the party. I was the first person VeryDarkMan informed about the story. I gave him the go-ahead to expose Bobrisky.”
