Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has ordered the State’s Vigilante Network to resume operation following the conclusion of the governorship election.

This is contrary to the ban placed on the Edo State Vigilante Network by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun few days to the last governorship election in the state.

Obaseki gave this order on Tuesday during the State Security Council meeting in Edo State.

The governor said the Council expressed appreciation to the good people of the state for maintaining peace throughout the recently concluded gubernatorial election, despite its outcome.

According to him, other issues highlighted included the unauthorised collection of revenue, peddling of hard drugs, and security challenges in Okpella, in the Edo North axis of the state.

He stated that the relevant security agencies assured that appropriate measures would be taken to address these concerns.

“Additionally, Council resolved that, following the conclusion of the election, the Edo State Vigilante Network will resume operations, and peace and order must be restored, particularly in light of the anticipated rise in accidents and criminal activities during the ’ember’ months,” Obaseki said.
