Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), revealed that his decision to accept the leadership role at the commission was driven by a clear conviction from God, which assured him of divine guidance and support.

Speaking at an appreciation service in Abuja on Wednesday, Amupitan shared that without this spiritual conviction, he would not have accepted the offer to lead the commission.

He recalled hearing God’s comforting words, “Fear not; do not be dismayed,” before making his decision.

Emphasizing that his tenure has been shaped by God’s strength, Amupitan called for prayers from Nigerians to ensure that the 2027 elections would be the best ever.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that with God’s help, every storm would be calmed, and the task was achievable.

Appointed by President Bola Tinubu in October 2025, Amupitan succeeded Mahmood Yakubu, marking him as the sixth substantive chairman of INEC since its inception.

He reiterated that his appointment was divinely orchestrated, underscoring the importance of faith in fulfilling his responsibilities.
