Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Festus Keyamo, has welcomed Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the development as a “strategic victory” for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post on X on Monday, Keyamo said the move completes the APC’s consolidation in the South/South region, positioning the party from a previous position of weakness to one of strength.
According to Keyamo, with Governor Diri’s support, five of the six states in the region are now officially under APC control, while the sixth state has a leader and minister openly backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Keyamo highlighted the dramatic turnaround, noting that the South/South had been in a position of weakness during the 2015, 2019, and 2023 elections, but is now poised with a “position of absolute advantage and strength” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Welcome home, Governor Duoye Diri!” Keyamo concluded in his tweet.
Political analysts say Governor Diri’s alignment with the APC could significantly influence the party’s fortunes in the South/South, a region historically considered opposition territory.
