Nollywood Actor Sylvester Madu has addressed the controversies over his clothes selling business in Enugu.
The Nollywood actor recently spoke up about the issue, explaining that he was selling brand new clothes and not second-hand clothes.
The video which first surfaced on the internet in 2023 sparked reactions and made people belive that the veteran was facing hard times and had difficulty fending for himself.
“They keep talking about okrika like say na one thing for gutter. 80% of Nigerians, they use okrika,” Madu responded to the online controversy surrounding the issue.
The Nollywood actor spoke about the judgement he received from the media and the shame surrounding second hand products.
“The cars that we drive now, okrika. Some of you people, your TVs in your house is okrika. Or you think it’s only clothes that is okrika? This matter of okrika, mek una leave am alone. You guys should leave it alone because you don’t know who’s hurting,” he said.
Sylvester Madu revealed that although he ignored the controversy, he felt the need to see speak up on it recently.
“I honestly don’t know why people will not just let the sleeping dog lie. They just like to touch the tiger’s tail. They always want to make you talk even when you don’t want to talk. Okrika no be bad business, so don’t get me wrong like I’m condemning it,” he stated.
The Nollywood actor also clarified that he has always been an entrepreneur and has been in the clothing business for three decades. Although he denies selling secondhand clothes, he reiterated that it is not bad business.
“I don’t do big man. I go to the field to sell by myself. I have a lot of people selling for me. I have different shops. I monitor my business.” Madu clarified.
In his message, Madu made it known that he was not going to be shamed as hard work is important.
