Nigerian singer Johnny Drille has sparked conversations online after speaking about the financial reality of concerts in Nigeria.
According to him, many top Nigerian artists do not make huge profits from local concerts despite their popularity, explaining that stars like Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid often perform more out of love for their fans than for financial gain.
“Nigerian artists barely make money from concerts in Nigeria. Even Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid mostly perform out of love for the fans,” he said.
Johnny Drille also linked the situation to rising concert ticket prices, referencing reports that Asake is charging as much as ₦300,000 for regular tickets at his shows.
His comments have triggered debate online, with many fans discussing the high cost of organizing concerts in Nigeria, including venue expenses, security, production, logistics, and the spending power of fans.
