The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, threatening to initiate another strike if their demands are not addressed within two weeks, Naijassador reports.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, released a statement on Wednesday expressing the union’s frustration over the government’s ongoing delays and failure to meet their demands. The union has set a deadline of October 7, 2024, for the government to take action.
“We have repeatedly highlighted the urgent need for the government to take concrete steps to address our demands,” Osodeke stated. “Despite our numerous efforts, there has been a lack of progress. We are left with no choice but to take decisive action.”
ASUU’s demands include increased funding for universities, improved working conditions for lecturers, and implementation of a sustainable salary structure. The union has also warned that a strike could severely disrupt the nation’s education system and hinder students’ academic progress.
