The All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Zonal chapter has issued a stern 7-day ultimatum, demanding a public apology from Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan. The social critic has found himself at the center of controversy after criticizing Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s recent trip to Rome.

VeryDarkMan had questioned the senate president’s decision to attend the funeral of the Pope amidst Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges. He suggested that rather than travelling abroad, Akpabio should have visited communities within Nigeria affected by violence to console grieving families.

However, the APC’s South-South leadership did not take his comments lightly. In a statement released by Blessing Agbomhere, the South-South APC Zonal Organizing Secretary, the party condemned VeryDarkMan’s remarks, describing them as unwarranted and disrespectful toward Nigeria’s number three citizen.

The statement read:

“VeryDarkMan is becoming notorious for blackmail, slander, and character assassination while pretending to be an advocate for the masses and a social crusader.”

The APC further clarified that Senate President Akpabio did not attend the Vatican event on his own accord but was officially nominated by President Bola Tinubu to represent Nigeria at the Pope’s burial ceremony.

Defending the administration’s commitment to national security, the statement emphasized that President Tinubu, upon returning from official engagements in France and the UK, promptly met with Nigeria’s security chiefs and gave them strict marching orders to address the country’s security issues with a new approach.

“The complex security problems in the country cannot be wished away with a wave of the hand; it takes time to achieve a semblance of peace,” the APC noted, reaffirming the government’s ongoing commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.

As the 7-day ultimatum counts down, all eyes are on VeryDarkMan to see whether he will issue the demanded apology or stand by his criticism. Meanwhile, the debate continues among Nigerians over leadership priorities and the balance between international diplomacy and domestic responsibility.
