We’ll Review Judicial Officers Salaries To Fight Corruption In Judiciary — Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has disclosed that his administration will review the remuneration of judicial officers as part of efforts to fight corruption in the judiciary.

Tinubu who revealed this on Friday, when he received the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) led by its President, Yakubu Maikyau, said the battle against corruption in the judiciary requires a comprehensive review of the salaries and allowances of judicial officers.

He furthered that his administration will address “current vacancies” in the Supreme Court in line with the recommendations of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

“We must deal with the review of remuneration if we truly want to fight corruption in the judiciary. We will look at the cost as well as the consequences.

“Majority of them are on holiday now and when they return, we will take a look at what they have and we will fill the vacancies. It’s a fulfilment of an obligation,” Tinubu was quoted as saying in a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson.

While appreciating Maikyau, for the invitation to open the association’s 63rd annual general conference this weekend in Abuja, he acknowledged the privilege of having lawyers as close aides, including Femi Gbajabiamila, his chief of staff; Victor Adeleke, state chief of protocol, and Damilotun Aderemi, president’s principal private secretary.

Maikyau on his part commended Tinubu for appointing members of the bar into his cabinet, including Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.
