A United States congressional delegation led by Congressman Riley Moore has concluded a visit to Nigeria to investigate reports of mass killings, particularly in Benue State.

The team, which also met senior government officials in Abuja, is preparing a detailed briefing for former US President Donald Trump.

Speaking on Fox News, Moore described the trip as the most distressing assignment of his public life, recounting testimonies from survivors in internally displaced persons’ camps. He said many accounts suggested that Christian communities were being deliberately targeted.

The delegation travelled across Benue in armoured vehicles, holding discussions with religious leaders, traditional rulers and victims. Moore questioned explanations attributing the violence to land or climate pressures, pointing instead to attacks on churches and IDP settlements.

He confirmed that Trump had instructed him and House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole to submit a full report before the end of the month.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly denied claims of religious persecution, maintaining that the security crisis is driven by criminality rather than faith-based motives.
