It’s been five months since the last major online clash between Wizkid and Davido. But on Wednesday, Wizkid stirred things up again by taking shots at Davido on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
This marks the second time in 2024 that Wizkid has started a public spat with his longtime rival, Davido.
How It All Started
The drama began in September when Wizkid teased a “special announcement” for Independence Day on October 1st. Shortly after, Davido also promised to reveal something big on the same day. This caused excitement and tension among their fanbases, as both stars prepared for their big reveals.
On September 30th, Davido posted a snippet of a new song on Instagram with the caption, “New song loading. Happy Independence, Nigeria.”
However, later that night, Wizkid posted a cryptic tweet on X that seemed to take a dig at Davido’s new song. He wrote, “Beg me, just like… Pus** boys are dropping mids again! Una don tire! Make una go rest small!” Fans quickly interpreted this as a direct jab at Davido’s latest track.
Tensions Rise
The situation got worse when Davido’s close friend, Tycoone, posted on X on October 1st, saying, “Tell your daddy to drop now.” Many saw this as a subtle shot at Wizkid. In response, a Wizkid fan urged Tycoone to “say please,” and Wizkid reposted this, fueling the fire even more.
Writer’s Opinion: Time to Move On?
While the back-and-forth between Wizkid and Davido might seem entertaining to some, it’s starting to lose its spark. Over time, their public beef has drawn less attention and become less exciting.
Other famous artists, like Pasuma and Saheed Osupa or K1 and Obesere, have had disagreements in the past, but those situations were handled with more maturity and respect. As two of the biggest names in Nigerian music, Wizkid and Davido are role models for many. Yet, their age and influence don’t seem to reflect in their behavior.
Their constant clashes have touched on sensitive topics, including personal lives and careers, which shouldn’t be used as fuel for online drama. If they’re not careful, they risk losing the respect they’ve built over the years—much like P-Square did during their public falling out.
