Popular Nigerian actor Lateef Adedimeji has opened up about the unique way he proposed to his wife, actress Bimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji, revealing that their love story started with a surprising phone call.
In a recent interview on the ‘With Chude Podcast’, Adedimeji shared how he took the unconventional route to propose to his wife.
According to him, the proposal was initially made over the phone, but Bimpe dismissed it as a joke.
“I called her and told her I wanted to ask her something, then I told her I wanted to marry her. She was just joking, like, ‘What is doing this one? Get out! I can’t marry a Muslim; are you okay? My daddy won’t even hear that,’” he recounted.
Adedimeji explained that Bimpe’s initial hesitation was rooted in concerns about her father’s approval, given his Islamic faith.
However, the actor was undeterred and took the next step by meeting her father in person.
“We went to her village during one of their masquerade festivals, and towards the end, I asked to see her dad. I promised him that I’d take care of his daughter, and he said he’d pray and get back to me, and that was it,” he said.
Despite the humorous and lighthearted nature of his proposal, Adedimeji also addressed a misconception about their relationship.
The couple, who are often assumed to have been dating for years, actually only dated for about two to three months before tying the knot.
“The proposal wasn’t planned because we just dated for like two, three months and then we got married,” he revealed.
