The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial robber, Tejumola Yekini, believed to be behind multiple robberies on the Eko Bridge corridor.
Yekini was apprehended after allegedly attacking and robbing one Bassey Dominic of his phone, cash, and forcing a mobile bank transfer at knifepoint.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., as the victim was walking home across Eko Bridge.
Yekini, said to have been armed with a cutlass and other dangerous weapons, reportedly swooped on Dominic, dispossessing him of a Techno mobile phone valued at N180,000, cash of N43,000, and compelling him under duress to transfer N150,000 to the suspect’s account before fleeing the scene.
The matter was immediately reported at the Ebute-Ero Police Division, where the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ordered a manhunt for the suspect.
Acting on intelligence, officers tracked Yekini to a beer parlour on Lagos Island, where he was arrested without incident.
Following the arrest, the case was assigned to Inspector Benson Idomian and his investigative team, who completed preliminary investigations before charging Yekini to court.
The suspect, who reportedly has no fixed address, was arraigned before Magistrate A.O. Alogba at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Igbosere, on a two-count charge of armed robbery.
During the arraignment, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Magaji Haruna, told the court that the accused committed the offence in violation of Section 411, contrary to Section 296 and punishable under Section 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
“The defendant attacked the complainant with a cutlass and other dangerous weapons, robbed him of his belongings, and forcefully withdrew the sum of N150,000 from his bank account before fleeing,” Inspector Haruna informed the court.
Magistrate Alogba adjourned the case to 31 July 2025 for mention, while the suspect remains in custody.
