Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has stirred controversy by claiming that he is 50 times bigger than Grammy-nominated artiste Asake.
The claim emerged on social media after a 2019 tweet by Asake resurfaced, showing him, then an up-and-coming artist, asking Blaqbonez for a follow-back.
An X user with the handle @thejacobsss reignited the debate by suggesting it was “hilarious” to rank Asake higher than Blaqbonez.
“Asake is big, but saying he’s bigger than Blaqbonez is pure comedy walai,” the fan wrote.
Blaqbonez supported the sentiment, responding,
“Like people are funny. I’m 50x bigger. I sold out the O2 Arena in 1 minute; it took him longer.”
However, fact-checkers and fans were quick to point out inconsistencies in the rapper’s statement. While Blaqbonez claimed to have sold out the O2 Arena, records show that he has not headlined or sold out the iconic venue.
Asake, on the other hand, has successfully sold out the O2 Arena twice, a feat celebrated across the music industry.
