Nigerian disc jockey and record producer Imohiosen Patrick, popularly known as DJ Neptune, has predicted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could soon “retire” music producers.

Speaking with media personality N6, who had made a similar warning on X, DJ Neptune shared a personal experience. He recalled listening to a song he intended to sign for an artist, only to discover it was AI-generated.

“After listening, I told the guy to sign the artist because what I heard was out of this world,” DJ Neptune said.

“Then my guy told me it was AI work. It shook me.”

N6 had earlier written on X:

“AI is quietly about to retire the entire music production and mastering industry. I have seen scary tinz tonight. God help all of us in this ecosystem.”

AI tools are increasingly being used by both upcoming and professional musicians, producers, and sound engineers to enhance beats, sound, and vocals.

In response to AI’s growing influence, the Recording Academy has updated its rules, allowing music with AI contributions to be eligible for Grammy Awards, provided there is sufficient human input.

Despite this, many industry figures are calling for music to remain “human,” citing concerns about authenticity, creativity, and authorship.
