For the first time in two years, an Emirates flight touched down at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Tuesday, marking the airline’s return to Nigeria after a lengthy suspension. Emirates halted flights in 2021 due to unresolved issues, including the airline’s trapped funds in Nigeria.

Flight EK 783, a Boeing 777-300ER, landed at 3:32 PM at the airport’s old terminal. The aircraft, which can seat up to 392 passengers, arrived with several empty seats, indicating a subdued return to operations. Passengers on board reported that the flight was not at full capacity but praised the quality of service provided by Emirates.

Airport officials noted a split in terminal operations, with departing passengers processed through the new terminal, while arrivals were handled in the Old Terminal. According to reports gathered by Naijassador, this marks a significant step in Emirates’ gradual re-entry into the Nigerian market, following its absence.

The resumption of flights is seen as a major milestone toward fully restoring international operations at MMIA, and a positive signal for the recovery of Nigeria’s aviation sector. Emirates’ return is expected to boost business and tourism travel between Nigeria and the UAE.
