Twins are highly adored by many and several people tend to love twins.
Twins are not completely rare but there is a certain town in Nigeria called “Twin capital of the world” where each family has a set of twins.
There are many good and unique tales from Igbo-Ora. The most important tale of this ancient town is ‘a melting pot of twin birth’. It is known for a remarkably large number of twins births. Imagine visiting this town for the first time and almost everyone is appearing double.
Igbo-Ora, referred to as ‘Twin zone’ is a sleepy town in Southwest Nigeria, Oyo state. Entering the town, there is a sign which reads: “Welcome To Igbo-Ora; The Nation’s Home Of Twins”. The rate of their population keep multiplying because of their high birth of twins. But no one is certain why this town is more twin prone than any other place. Many researchers are trying to unravel the mystery behind the multiple birth rate, attributing it to either their environment or the food women of the town eat.
According to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) article, there are about 158 twins per 1,000 newborns in Igbo-Ora, compared to 5 twins per 1,000 newborns in Europe. You can imagine how much twins are in this town! This Yoruba community even celebrate an annual festival called Igbo-Ora World Twins Festival.
