The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has extended the deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks, following an overwhelming response from applicants nationwide.

The PSC announced on Monday that the application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026, after more than 400,000 applications were received within the initial window.

According to the Commission, the decision to extend the deadline was informed not only by the high volume of applications but also by noticeable disparities in participation across states

It said while states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded strong interest, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra posted comparatively low application numbers.

The PSC said the extension is intended to promote equitable national representation in the recruitment exercise and provide additional opportunity for qualified Nigerians in underrepresented states to participate.

“All eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with low application turnout, are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the extension and apply through the official recruitment portal,” the Commission stated.

Applicants are required to submit their applications exclusively via the PSC recruitment website at npfapplication.psc.gov.ng, as the Commission reiterated that no other platform is authorised for the exercise.

To further widen participation, the PSC and NPF urged state governments, local government councils, traditional institutions, sociocultural organisations, religious bodies and community leaders to intensify mobilisation and sensitisation efforts within their respective jurisdictions before the new deadline.

The Commission reaffirmed that the recruitment process would be conducted strictly in line with established guidelines, stressing its commitment to transparency, fairness and merit-based selection.

The recruitment of 50,000 constables is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen internal security, improve police presence across communities and address manpower gaps within the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement was signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Police Service Commission, Abuja.
