Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has reacted to the backlash over her recent promotional video for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), insisting her participation was driven by patriotism, not politics.
The video, which surfaced last week, featured Ojo encouraging travelers to take advantage of FAAN’s protocol services, praising them for “comfort, speed, and exclusivity” at the nation’s airports.
While intended as a straightforward endorsement, the clip quickly sparked debate on social media. Critics questioned how Ojo, who has previously criticized the administration, could now appear in a campaign promoting a government agency.
Addressing the criticism, the 48-year-old actress clarified that she did the video free of charge. FAAN had approached her, and she accepted not for financial reward but out of a sense of national pride.
“I’m Nigerian. And I’m a voice. When I see progress — airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved — I shout it from the rooftops. Not because I’m paid, not because it’s political, but because I feel it and I want good for my country,” Ojo explained in an Instagram post.
She also reiterated her commitment to national development, regardless of political affiliation.
“I will continue to use my craft, my voice, to promote Nigeria, and I’m unapologetic about it. I’ll work with any political party — as long as it’s about building a better tomorrow for our dear nation. No hate. No agenda. Just hands joined. Let’s stop dividing. Start building,” she added.
