The Nigeria Police Force said one of its officers captured in a viral video holding bundles of Naira notes being used for spraying by Wahab , a son of Nigerian billionaire businessman, Razaq Okoya has been arrested for disciplinary action.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer announced the arrest of the police officer in a statement on Friday morning.
However, he did not reveal the identity of the police officer.
In a video that went viral about three days ago, the policeman was seen in his uniform holding bundle of Naira notes for Wahab Okoya, who is the last child of the billionaire businessman who is also aspiring to be a musician.
Wahab was seen with one of his brothers at the event believed to have taken place at Okoya’s expansive multimillion-naira mansion in Lekki area of Lagos.
The Police officer was seen in the video standing behind the Okoya brothers, holding the bundle of cash as they were spraying money on themselves.
The viral video sparked reactions from netizens with many condemning the abuse of the naira by the sons of the billionaire businessman and the involvement of a police officer in the act for which many less privileged Nigerians have been arrested and prosecuted by the Econonomics and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
However, Adejobi in his statement on Friday, condemned the involvement of the policeman in the spraying of naira notes, describing it as ‘unethical’ as he vowed that that the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police will always be paramount to the management of the law enforcement agency.
In the short statement published on the Nigeria Police Force X handle, Adejobi said, “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action. The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police.”
