Arsenal have booked a place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 20 years after edging past Atletico Madrid in a tense semi-final clash at the Emirates Stadium.

A decisive first-half strike from Bukayo Saka proved the difference on the night, sealing a 1-0 victory and ensuring Arsenal progressed after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

The result marks a historic return to Europe’s biggest club stage for the North London side, whose only previous final appearance came in 2006, when they lost 2-1 to Barcelona in Paris.

Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have undergone a dramatic transformation in recent seasons, blending youth and experience into a cohesive unit capable of competing with Europe’s elite.

The breakthrough moment came late in the first half when Saka reacted quickest inside the box to fire home from close range, sending the home crowd into raptures.

Arsenal then produced a disciplined defensive display, with goalkeeper David Raya and the backline standing firm against sustained pressure from Diego Simeone’s side.

Atletico Madrid, known for their resilience, pushed hard for an equaliser but were repeatedly frustrated by Arsenal’s organisation and composure.

For Arsenal supporters, the victory represents more than just progression, it signals the club’s resurgence on the continental stage after years of rebuilding.

The Gunners will now turn their attention to the final and will meet the winner between PSG and Bayern Munich where they will seek to secure their first-ever Champions League title and cap a remarkable European campaign.
