Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed deep sorrow following a tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed 51 lives in Niger State on Sunday.
The incident occurred when a fuel tanker collided with a trailer carrying travelers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State.
Fifty-one people who perished in the explosion were laid to rest in a mass burial according to Islamic rites.
Additionally, around 50 cattle were also killed in the accident.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago conveyed his deep sadness over the devastating loss of lives and property in the Agaie Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.
The Governor expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and noted that the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and other relevant bodies had been deployed to the accident scene for rescue operations and necessary interventions.
Bago urged residents of the affected area to remain calm and called on road users to be cautious and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for the swift recovery of those injured.
The explosion, which took place approximately 2km from Dendo Community in Agaie, also destroyed vehicles and property in addition to the loss of human lives and cattle.
