Layering clothes is putting two or more entirely different clothes together stylishly. There is a huge difference between styling and layering. Styling is knowing how to put colours together to make a beautiful outfit. Whereas layering is putting clothes of different colours, textures and styles to mix and match a great outfit. Layering comes in different forms. It could be wearing a sleeveless Jersey with a long sleeve top within, paired with jeans, leggings,  joggers or whatever bottoms you choose. It could also be wearing a shirt with a sweater vest paired with jeans or a skirt.

Layering comes in different styles and forms. But the basic aim is to create a beautiful outfit with different colours and cloth textures that blend beautifully.

As a beginner, layering clothes can seem a bit intimidating, but it’s quite fun and easy once you get the hang of it. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Start with lightweight layers

Begin by layering lightweight pieces, such as a basic tee or a shirt, before moving on to thicker items. This allows you to add warmth without feeling bulky.

Mix and match textures

Experiment with different textures to add visual interest to your layers. For example, pair a chunky knit sweater with a silky gown or a leather jacket with a flowy dress.

Play with lengths

Layering clothes of different lengths can create a stylish and dynamic look. You could pair a spaghetti handgown with a knitted shawl.

Focus on proportion

Pay attention to the proportions of your layers. Avoid overwhelming your frame by balancing loose and fitted pieces. For example, if you’re wearing a loose top, pair it with slim-fitting pants or vice versa.

Use accessories to tie it together

Add accessories like scarves, belts, or statement jewellery to pull your layered outfit together and add a personal touch.

Remember, layering is all about experimentation and finding what works for you. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different pieces to create unique and stylish combinations. Have fun and rock your layered looks with confidence!
