Renowned Nigerian disk jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt, has opened up about his journey through significant health challenges in a heartfelt interview on Rubbin Minds.
The celebrated DJ revealed how his struggles began during the 2020 lockdown, shedding light on his battle with eye problems and chronic kidney disease, as well as his eventual recovery.
Jimmy Jatt shared that his health issues first surfaced while he was in Nigeria during the global lockdown. He experienced a sudden loss of vision in one eye and had to undergo surgery to restore it. Just as he was recovering from this ordeal, he was dealt another blow: a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease.
Reflecting on his lifestyle choices, he admitted,
“Maybe I caused it myself because, in 2019, I decided to spend more time outside Nigeria. I had lived all my life in Lagos and wanted to explore other parts of the world: Europe, America, everywhere.”
However, the travel restrictions of 2020 kept him grounded in Nigeria, where his health struggles began. After successfully regaining his eyesight through surgery, he decided to explore the world, relocating to the United States. It was there that he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, requiring him to undergo dialysis regularly.
Eventually, Jimmy Jatt returned to Nigeria in 2022 for a life-saving kidney transplant. After a successful procedure, he dedicated time to recovery before resuming his passion for music. During this period, he continued to perform across America and Europe, demonstrating remarkable resilience despite his health challenges.
DJ Jimmy Jatt’s openness about his health challenges highlights the importance of health awareness and resilience. His story celebrates the human capacity to overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
