David Mark quits PDP ahead of his announcement as Interim Chair of ADC

Former Senate President, David Mark has resigned as member of Peoples Democratic Party ahead of his expected announcement as the interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, the party adopted by the national opposition coalition working to ensure that President Bola Tinubu was not re-elected in 2027.

Mark announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter to the ward chairman of the PDP in Otukpo, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. The former Senate President, in a letter dated 27 June, attributed his decision to quit the party to the persistent crises in PDP and his decision to join the national opposition coalition.

Mark said while he has worked to settle crises afflicting the PDP, but the crisis is deepening by the day

“However, recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis and irreconcilable differences reduced the party to a shadow of its former self, subjecting it to ridicule,” Mark said.

He added that his decision to dump the PDP was taken after he consulted with his family members and political associates:

“After wide consultations with my family and political associates, I have resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Movement in Nigeria as part of the collective efforts to rescue our nation and preserve our hard earned democracy.”

David Mark had on Tuesday evening signed a statement asking members of PDP to join the National Opposition Coalition to rescue Nigeria from the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led All Progressives Congress, APC government.

Reports indicated that he will be announced as the interim national chairman of the ADC adopted by the national opposition coalition as a platform to battle Tinubu in the 2027 presidential elected today, Wednesday, July 2.

Mark, a retired Nigerian Army brigadier general served as the president of the Nigerian Senate from 2007 to 2015.

He was the longest serving president of the Nigerian Senate.

He represented Benue South senatorial district from 1999 to 2019 in the upper chamber of the National Assembly from 1999 to 2019.

He was also a former military Governor of Niger State from 1984 to 1986 and is a one-time minister of communication.
