With the recent news flying around of a romantic relationship between Nengi and a top politician, the governor’s side has now published a statement to clear the air.
The governor’s camp has strongly denied allegations that he is responsible for the pregnancy of reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija contestant, Nengi Hampson. The rumours, which recently gained traction on social media, claimed that the reality TV star had given birth to the governor’s child, with some speculating that he has four wives.
Reacting to the claims, Governor Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Samuel Oredipe, took to Facebook to dismiss the reports as fake news orchestrated by political opponents seeking to tarnish the governor’s reputation. He clarified that there is no personal relationship between the governor and Nengi beyond her 2020 appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development.

On her part, the reality TV star had also addressed the allegations earlier on social media, denying the claims and expressing frustration over the spread of misinformation. She emphasized that while she usually ignores social media rumours, she felt the need to speak out to protect those she holds dear.
The controversy arose as Governor Diri’s administration marked its fifth anniversary, with his aides attributing the rumours to political mischief aimed at distracting from his achievements. Both Diri and Nengi have dismissed the allegations as baseless and misleading.
