The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and their resolve to defend Nigeria’s democracy while maintaining peace and security across the country.
In a goodwill message to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Oluyede said the military would remain professional and united in fulfilling its constitutional mandate, working closely with other security agencies and civil authorities.
He paid tribute to fallen heroes whose sacrifices, he said, preserved the nation’s unity and sovereignty, describing Remembrance Day as “a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid for the peace and liberty we enjoy today”.
He said: “Their ‘today’ was given for our ‘tomorrow’, and their legacy of courage remains etched in the annals of our nation’s history forever.
“Their devotion to duty was not a mishap but a calling to patriotism; hence, the weight of our gratitude remains unquantifiable.”
The CDS also acknowledged the families of fallen soldiers, praising their resilience and assuring them that the nation would continue to honour the legacies of their loved ones.
Oluyede commended officers and soldiers currently deployed across various theatres of operation, noting that their dedication reflected exceptional professionalism and loyalty.
He said: “As your Chief of Defence Staff, I am immensely proud of your qualitative output and your commitment to the values of discipline and selfless service.
“I make it clear that the Armed Forces shall give no quarter nor mortgage the cradle of our national heritage and security at any time.
“Our Armed Forces will continue to root out all threats to our national security, both local and trans-border.”
He assured personnel that their welfare remained a top priority and pledged that the military leadership would continue to build a highly professional force guided by lessons from veterans.
The CDS thanked President Tinubu for his “steadfast leadership, strategic guidance, and unwavering support” for the Armed Forces, pledging continued commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and security.
