Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has finally addressed the swirling allegations that she is the person behind the notorious and faceless Instagram blog, Gistlover.
The actress, known for her outspoken nature and fearless takes on social issues, set the record straight during a candid conversation with comedian AY Makun on his podcast.
For years, Gistlover has been the go-to source for controversial celebrity exposés, anonymous leaks, and behind-the-scenes gossip in Nigeria’s entertainment world. But as the blog grew in popularity and infamy, speculations arose about the true identity of the person or people behind the account. Iyabo Ojo’s name eventually surfaced among the top suspects, a claim she now dismisses as both shocking and baseless.
“Some people came out to say I am Gistlover. I was shocked,” she said. “Iyabo Ojo is Gistlover, and I posted about my life on Gistlover? I dragged my daughter on Gistlover? Is it for the money or the fame?”
The actress went on to question the logic behind the accusation, stating that if she were behind the infamous blog, it would make no sense for her to damage her own image or that of her family.
“The rubbish that was written about threesomes and stuff that Gistlover posted and it went viral—for what reason would I want to drag my own daughter and myself? Destroy my name and reputation, why?” she asked, visibly baffled by the idea.
Iyabo also revealed some insider details on how blogs like Gistlover typically source their content. According to her, a significant portion of the gossip is leaked by people within celebrities’ inner circles.
“One thing I found out about Gistlover is that it’s the people close to you who take the information to Gistlover. Sometimes the information they take is wrong. But they still take them. Some of the information is right, and some are wrong.”
She added that many of the so-called “gists” about her were likely leaked by her colleagues in the entertainment industry, a reality that both saddens and frustrates her.
Iyabo questioned whether the faceless blogger even conducts proper fact-checking before releasing these sensational posts to the public. With lives and reputations on the line, she called for more responsibility and accountability in how these stories are handled.
