A Nigerian lady known as Renike have asked a disturbing question about the reason brides usually pick the Bible during Yoruba traditional wedding.
It is a common custom for the bride to pick the Bible during traditional weddings in Yoruba land especially if the couple are christians.
The lady who seems confused as to the reason a bride picks bible of all things presented by the groom’s family during traditional weddings, took to Twitter.
The lady therefore stated that during her own traditional wedding she will pick yam or plantain instead of bible.
Her words,
“Sorry o. But why must the bride pick bible at Yoruba trad weddings? I’m a Christian o, but what if I want yam? Or plantain?”.
A commenter identified as Bessiedone wrote:
“The real question should be “what was usually picked before religion came to Nigeria”.
Another commenter identified as Toyin Oguntuyi wrote:
“In some cases Jwellery can be there but the engagement ring is kept with the Bible and tradition expects you to go for that”.
